Louis XIV by Hyacinthe Rigaud

This self portrait of King Louis XIV is painted in 1701 by a French painter named Hyacinthe Rigaud. Rigaud was one of the most famous portrait painters during King Louis the 14th’s reign. This painting is of King Louis XIV in his coronation costume. He has his costume and hair (or wig) done for him professionally in this portrait. The detail in this full body self portrait is very realistic, making it seem almost like a picture. You can tell why Rigaud was on of the most famous portrait painters of his time. He was known well for the impressive poses and grand presentations that suited the taste of the royals.
