Queen Elizabeth Watching the Merry Wives of Windsor

The painting that i have picked is called Queen Elizabeth Watching The Merry Wives of Windsor at The Globe Theatre by David Scott painted in 1840. This picture is showing an audience enjoying Shakespeare’s play as well as Queen Elizabeth. The queen showed a lot of interests in playwrights which led to a golden age for english theater. Even though all social classes could attend the theater, the poor usually sat in a small opened are and paid a small amount to attend. As for the upper classes they paid to be seated in the galleries. The painting was one of the earliest attempts to imagine The Globes’s interior during performance. In fact, the Queen never visited The Globe or any other theaters. The painter did a good job of incorporating the Queen even though she never attended any theaters plays even if she liked them very much.
