Above is a painting called The Proportions of the Human Figure which was illustrated by Leonardo Da Vinci. At the time Leonardo Da Vinci studied anatomy and dissected the human body to perfect his illustrations of the human figure. Leonardo Da Vinci’s first human dissection was of an old man who passed away in the winter of 1507-08. By 1508 he found himself studying anatomy or the mechanics of a man.
Leonardo Da Vinci’s interest in anatomy continued to the late 1840’s. He was the court artist to Ludovico Maria Sforza. Ludovico Maria Sforza was the Duke of Milan from 1489-1500. Overtime Leonardo Da Vinci’s interest in anatomy faded. By 1490 Leanardo Da Vinci felt frustrated. He had no access to human material and his goals in the anatomy field had subsided. Eventually Leonardo DA Vinci set other goals. His next study led him to the creation of The Last Supper. In conclusion Leonardo Da Vinci studied anatomy to perfect his illustrations on the human figure.
